Day 21

The shortest day of the year! You know what that means? We are now moving closer to Summer and the longest day of the year! Now that's something to look forward to!

I was privilaged to attend a beautifully organised fundraiser today for the "biggest morning tea" as a Nutrimetics consultant. It was at a gorgeous property with a string quartet playing. Each woman that came brought their own tea cup. One of the fund-raising activities was to tell your story for your teacup. It was fantastic! There were funny stories, sad stories and beautiful ones. The oldest tea cup was over 100! And had been passed down many generations!! :)

What I loved most about this activity was a reminder that everyone has a story. Everyone has been on a roller coaster and experienced ups and downs. There were two things that came from this reminder - the first being that you can never judge someone, for you never know what their life has been like. Ie the "creepy guy" looking over your back fence, might be trying to catch your attention to say hello, or let you know they are spraying poison along the fence line - He may not be creepy, but be more reserved or be different in his approach than what you are use to.

The second thing was; that everyone you encounter will have had something difficult to content with over their life. And what struck me as really interesting, is not WHAT people had been through but HOW it affected their outlook and approach to different situations. It is your choice how you approach as situation. You can approach a situation with negativity, for example 'she didn't come to her shift on time' or 'they never do their job properly' but in the end you are only causing frustration for yourself by thinking these things.

Or you could focus on what you do have - and going on from what I talked about earlier..everyone has a story. So whilst it can be frustrating for you when someone does not to turn up to their shift - you do not know what has happened to stop them coming or what is currently going on in their life. Perhaps we should stop jumping into the negative train and start showing some compassion and understanding. Also being negative is a a cycle..you continue to feel worse. If you stop, accept what has happened…can you fix it? i.e. call in another staff member? If you can, do so and let it go. If you can't, accept that and move on. You are actually wasting energy by worrying about something you either have the ability to fix or not.

The more we are ruled by our frustrations the less light we will see and the less fun we will have. Some days this is difficult. Every situation we are faced with, and the decision on how we want to portray it, is all a learning tool. One of the best advice I've ever had, is if you find yourself back in that negative cycle and deal with a situation less than you wanted to. Is stop and say "That's not like me, I'll choose to handle …(situation)……. differently next time!" Check in with your thoughts regularly through the day - what do they say about your peace of mind?

Day 21 photo: Playing a fun game of cards with Mum and Grandma :)
I had a lovely afternoon / evening playing cards with Mum and Grandma. I couldn't think of a better way to end a beautiful day!

Day 20

Happy Friday!! :)
Day 20 photo: Sunrise

What a site to wake up to this morning! The day started beautiful, how could you not stop to appreciate the view. I knew it was going to be a magnificent day! I decided to have a day today where I just went with the flow. Didn't set myself a ginormous to-do list like I normally do! I went to have a swim..then the gym. I visited some friends from the gym and had a cuppa with mum and grandma.

Buddy watching the birds
Buddy had enough of the noise…walking away!!

I had a lovely afternoon with mum - laughing at silly jokes whilst both trying to figure out how to use the computer! Was a simple, fun afternoon.

I then came home and played with the animals and had a nap!

I'm going to keep today's blog fairly simple. This is because today I realised the beauty in spending quality time 'in the moment' with people you care about. And sometimes the funnest moments are the ones that we don't plan.

So have a lovely friday night - I hope you all can have a simple, beautiful unplanned day with loved ones.

Day 19

What makes you, you? What unique skills / gifts / attributes do you bring to the table?

We are all individuals and different. I completed an online test today about what your gifts are and how to utilise them in day-to-day life. When I told my best friend what I found out - she said "that doesn't surprise me at all! Sums you up!" I was reading it thinking 'yeh maybe it does some me up' - but I kept making excuses…yeh I do like to learn..but doesn't everyone? Yeh I guess I like to give encouragement. Funny though, I've never stopped to think about my 'personality traits' as gifts - especially those that could be used in growing my business or expanding my inner strengths.

It's back to giving compliments isn't it? Appreciating what you have and utilising your strengths. Look at what you have instead of what you don't have. I would quite often focus on 'I wish…' or 'I need to be…' rather than, 'I'm so grateful for…' or 'thankfully I am…' especially when it comes to personality traits. I'm going to try it…identify the positive attributes in myself…what makes me, me! We really believe what we tell ourselves - regardless of whether it's positive or negative. So if we continue to have an excuse for our positive attributes, we'll turn them into negative ones. Then where will we be? Probably less happy and more stressed because we all striving for positivity and ability to accept ourselves?

Today when I went into town to pay some bills, it strikes me how most people are too busy to almost be human. We talk on mobile phones whilst at the checkout, we walk with our head down or on our phones, we rush in between traffic to cross the road, we get caught up in our own thoughts we neglect to see the elderly lady needing a hand to cross the road or $2 that someone dropped in front of you.

It's amazing the impact you can have by NOT multi-tasking. By completing a task with your full attention. Today I looked the check out man in the eye and engaged in a conversation, took my time whilst walking (pretty easy with a bung knee!!) and I had my phone in my pocket and looked around when I was crossing the road. Actually looking for times to smile and engage with people. And I was met with the loveliest responses…a nod from an elderly man, smile from a mum with a pram and conversation with a young person whilst in the checkout line. I actually felt human!!

As promised..two photos!! :)

Day 19 #1 photo: Cooking Carnage

Day 19 #2 photo: Cakes of labour!!
A lovely afternoon of cooking yummy carrot cakes…until it came to the dishes! Afternoons like this, I wish I had a minion!! ;)

This is sweet :)

Day 18

Another huge day today.

I went along to a party plan seminar today. It was amazing. The presenter was so energetic and fun. The session was aimed particularly at a party plan business - for me Nutrimetics - and how flexible and great the opportunity is. However, the huge take home message is that anything you want to achieve is based on your ENERGY. Some people have really extrovert energy - when they are passionate and excited they jump up and down and the whole world knows about it, others are more subtle, it may be a gleam in their eye  or a knowing smile. But these are the people that you spot a mile away when you walk into the room, and instantly want to go and talk to.

I've discussed the importance of positive thoughts and complimenting yourself and others. Which reflects the energy you put out. When we stop and break it down - what does it mean to have energy? When we have that inner excitement and passion and love for something, it really does shine out of us. What the presenter really focussed on today was being aware of yourself - thinking, being and doing. How do you think? About yourself? About others? How does that reflect on who you are being? What are you doing? What actions are you taking because of these thoughts?

We focus a lot on the 'doing' aspect, but not as much on thinking and being. How you think about something reflects on your behaviour by attaching meaning to a thought. For example someone cancels their appointment with you..what do you think? Do you blame yourself? Do you get angry at them? If you do, your energy will change - you will feel bad (disappointed), you may take it out on someone - or start in the 'negative cycle' of thinking. This will reflect on your energy and hence what you attract - i.e. probably negative energy and your business will suffer.

Then being - what does your energy say about you? Would you like to be in your own company?! So your thoughts reflect on who you become. How do you want to be seen? You can either look at what is not happening and focus on the negativity or you can look at what you do have and what is working and put all your energy there. It's definitely fantastic to stop and reflect at any given moment and work out what your thoughts are doing. Are they what you want to be thinking / attracting?

I will have to take 2 photos tomorrow as I got a new phone! Whoop! I was happy and excited to spend some time with a beautiful sales consultant at Telstra, and the best thing? I am lucky I'm in the industry to be able to give something back to those helpful people that cross my path (a complimentary facial!). It felt great to be able to give something to someone that goes above what their job entails.

Day 17

Wow, today has just - poof! Disappeared! So much so I almost forgot to set aside some time to write! Whoopsy!

Albert Einstein was very wise...
I had a lovely day, spending the time with my sister. Apart from a specialist call, my phone was set aside. It was so lovely to spend quality time with family without the distraction of technology. We rely so much on technology for entertainment these days. I have a friend who has unplugged their tv and rarely answers their phone. How liberating! If we 'schedule' time to spend on internet / tv / phone (games) we would probably have a lot more time to do other things we love…like spending time with our families and kids and dogs…

In saying that, technology is important - I mean I am currently watching 'when love comes to town' and texting a good friend, who lives on the other side of Victoria (and writing my blog on the internet..). We don't get to catch up face to face, but having a weekly time where we message and be silly is so much fun and I look forward to it. Most of my close friends live far away from me, so I do like to be able to email / call / message. I find though, in between all of that, I WASTE TIME!! :)

If you've read some of my other blogs you'll know I've focussed a bit on time management and prioritising. The past couple of months, actually having time to process everything. Has made me realise just how precious time is. As an elderly guy from my gym once said…

"Your life goes by in a blink of your eye"

I would much prefer to reach the end of my life knowing I made the most of my time..not reached level 500 in candy crush!! ;)

Hey you there! How's all your positive thinking going?

I sat and completed another mindfulness exercise today. You need to sit still and bring the awareness into your body - checking in slowly with each part of your body - and let go of all the thoughts drifting into your head. It only took about 10minutes. When I opened my eyes, I laughed so hard. Buddy (my dog) was sitting as close as he could to me, with his head on the edge of the chair and eyes closed…apparently he was practicing too!!

Well you do attract what you put out (as I said yesterday!!) Hehehe! There is nothing like having a dog to make you smile and laugh. I know he's made it onto my blog a few times already…

Day 16

Mwohahahahahahahhahahahahaha!

Writing an early one today, so I can attend Nutrimetics training tonight, and start to get back into 'normality'.

My day started at the gym…funnily enough reading a book about a little chicken family with quirky stories. (Thanks Michelle!) Yep! A good workout... of laughter. Laughter is definitely the best medicine. Laughter is universal - even if you can't speak someone else's language, you can still laugh and giggle together! I forgot how awesome it is to have a good belly laugh…so much it actually hurts!!

I once started a laughter club - for no reason other than I wanted to. I remember how strange it was to be standing in a circle with all sorts of different people looking awkward…then once we started laughing we couldn't stop! We were literally rolling on the floor with tears. There is actually research completed about the benefits of laughing..that it relaxes the whole body and that it's really contagious. Another reason to hang out with positive and funny people! http://www.helpguide.org/life/humor_laughter_health.htm

Hehe…I think I'm the only one who finds my jokes funny..then everyone just laughs and me laughing!!

If you can't muster a laugh, even a smile releases endorphins and makes you feel good. Sometimes it is really hard to smile..so sometimes I grimace…then it turns into a real smile..then a laugh (at yourself for grimacing!!). And when you feel better you make better decisions and you attract what you put out. So if you are smily and laughing and fun, the people who you attract and that you end up hanging out with a positive, fun people! :) Much better than sitting around comparing doom and gloom stories!

How do you laugh or smile when you've had "one of those days"? Oh, the ideas are endless! But I know that I look at animals doing silly things, or watch Buddy going silly, or read really bad dad jokes (see above) or dance crazily around the house listening to 60s music! But find what tickles your funny bone and spend some time doing that and laugh until you feel better! Sometimes easier said than done..but that's why they invented comedy movies! To help us laugh when we need!!

I just had a thought of the best time of laughing I've ever done… it's when I am not allowed to!! You know when you're in the middle of a meeting and someone says something to you (generally doesn't even need to be funny initially), then you do the silent laughter, and can't stop or can't look at each other and you laugh even more (silently of course!) until you have tears rolling down your face and you forget what was so funny in the first place!!

Day 16 photo: Afternoon tea..
I had a giggle today..I left the room for a second and returned to find buddy smooching closer to my afternoon tea! He was looking at me for the "munchy" command to eat..needless to say I think I stopped his wishful thinking in his tracks when I ate the rest of it!

I hope you all find something to laugh about tonight and feel awesomely! :) I just have to say for the record..I LOVE LAUGHING!! :)

Day 15

Time ticks past…'goes so quickly' or 'never seem to have enough time'. Do you know what is the funniest thing about those comments? Is that time never changes, a second = a second… minute always = a minute etc… So what about our lives makes us feel so rushed and like there really isn't any time?

Yesterday I talked a lot about where we spend our time and setting small tasks to achieve your goals..but do you know when there are too many tasks to fit in a day? Do you know how to prioritise..? I know that I didn't. Since I have been off work and off exercise…my days have had endless time..which is what I always wanted wasn't it? But for some reason, the less you need to do, the less you want to do and in turn the less you actually get done! Hence why prioritising and having a task list is really important…or time really would just be wasted.

What I've been working out is the art of figuring out what is most important and "LETTING GO" of the rest. I am still working on this (that's why I yelled it!) I mean everyone is so different and what is most important to you, will be different from you mum / best friend / colleague. For example my mum would always prioritise vacuuming, where as I would always choose a run first any day! :) So comparison between you and someone else is always a bad idea.  "The only person you need to be better than, is the person you were yesterday…"

Letting go / moving forward / living in the moment…goes hand in hand with what my whole blog is about. But what makes letting go so difficult? I think for me, there is part of me that does not want to seem like a failure. Which is silly because what fits one day most likely won't sometime in the future. We need to embrace change and look for some of that spontaneity. But we are creatures of habit and change can be difficult. Most change occurs when we let go of the past and whatever is holding us there.

I have been reading a lot lately, and habits / going through the motions is what majority of us to do-to-day. Just think back to time ticking…if 80% of the time we are habitually going through the motions..that's 80% of our life that is gone…without even thinking about it!! Makes you think about being a bit more wise with our thoughts and time doesn't it.

Photo Day 15: Storm over the lake
Today I visited a friend, and we sat up on the second story and looked out across the water..it was beautiful. Then we saw hundreds of water fowls and pelicans in what looked like a feeding frenzy. Then there was a double rainbow…it was stunning. And great to sit there with a friend and get distracted by the environment and the natural beauty. Now here is somewhere I could probably happily habitually sit and look at that for 80% of the time!!
